In unfair dismissal claims, section 123(4) of the Employment Rights Act 1996 expects you to mitigate your loss. This means that you must try and find another job as soon as possible and apply for all state benefits that you are entitled to. This does not mean that the Employment Tribunal will penalise you for not finding a job, but you have to show that you have made reasonable efforts to find another job.
