The right to be accompanied in disciplinary and grievance proceedings is set out in Section 10 of the Employment Relations Act 1999 (ERelA) which says that where a worker reasonably requests to be accompanied at a disciplinary or grievance hearing, the employer must allow the worker to be accompanied by a companion chosen by that worker.
